The moves explored can be done sitting as well as standing. These classes serve to provide an environment and opportunity for all to enjoy the energizing, enriching and empowering benefits of dance and music in a welcoming community setting.

Facilitator Jennifer Speiden will bring elements of contemporary, social and world dances into the class as well as integrate her extensive movement knowledge and experience as a physical therapist, registered yoga teacher, Pilates instructor and professional dance performer and educator.

Why Dance for PD?

These ten points were originally developed by the Mark Morris Dance Group/Brooklyn Parkinson Group's Dance for PD® program

· Dance develops flexibility and instills confidence.

· Dance is first and foremost a stimulating mental activity that connects mind to body.

· Dance breaks isolation.

· Dance invokes imagery in the service of graceful movement.

· Dance focuses attention on eyes, ears and touch as tools to assist in movement and balance.

· Dance increases awareness of where all parts of the body are in space.

· Dance tells stories.

· Dance sparks creativity.

· The basis of dance is rhythm.

· The essence of dance is joy.

Please visit Dance for PD's website at www.danceforpd.org for more info about their program

and to see the inspiration behind this class.
